Drug Addiction: the Mystery Begins with Proving

7/23/2016 , 141 Comments

One sensible, prudent, logical, and wise counsel of the Bible is to "prove all things." The intention as stated on the succeeding verse is to hold fast to that which is good and abstain from all appearance of evil.

I Thessalonians 5:21-22 (KJV)
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

The accumulated knowledge of humanity since time immemorial reflects knowledge of things proven to be good that we have to hold fast to, and evil that we must abstain from. Let us look into an example of a supposedly enlightened one but really is not.

Buddha, the god of the Buddhists and authority of the faith of some one billion people on the planet, died of eating a kind of poisonous mushroom according to the encyclopedia. Buddha, from his name, Siddhārtha Gautama, is simply named "Buddha," that implies he is "enlightened." Buddha means "the enlightened one."

Buddhism, a major world religion, is founded in northeastern India and based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, who is known as the Buddha, or Enlightened One.

Originating as a monastic movement within the dominant Brahman tradition of the day, Buddhism quickly developed in a distinctive direction. The Buddha not only rejected significant aspects of Hindu philosophy, but also challenged the authority of the priesthood, denied the validity of the Vedic scriptures, and rejected the sacrificial cult based on them. Moreover, he opened his movement to members of all castes, denying that a person’s spiritual worth is a matter of birth. (Source: Encarta)

Perhaps because of his utter refusal to believe in the God of the Bible, or of his ignorance of the Bible, he portrayed something that is the direct opposite of his famous name "Buddha." If he really was enlightened, he should have been cautious in eating mushrooms – the cause of his death – because not all mushrooms are the same.

While many species of mushrooms are good for humans and may contribute to our well being, it is a known fact in human history that there are poisonous mushrooms. Colors and shapes of mushrooms indicate the edible and warn us of the poisonous ones.

Here are common traits of these poisonous mushrooms:

1. Warts or scales on the cap. Note the off colored "patches" on the top of the picture to the right. These are the remnants of the universal veil that surrounds the mushroom when it is young. Sometimes these patches look more like rows of raised dots, as seen on the pictures further down.
2. A parasol or umbrella shaped cap. Each of these pictures is a good example of how an amanita cap is shaped, convex like a wide, upside down letter U. Or, for my fellow math enthusiasts, like an inverted parabola!
3. The presence of a bulbous cup or sac around the base. This rounded cup is called the "volva" and is another remnant of the universal veil. It is often under the ground so you may have to gently dig up the mushroom to see it. The Amanita muscaria (commonly known as a "toadstool") to the left is a great example of this bulbous base.
4. A white spore print. When an amanita cap is placed face down on a dark colored sheet of paper, it will often leave a spore print that is white.
5. The presence of a ring around the stem. This ring, called the "annulus", is where the partial veil was attached to the stem before it tore apart as the mushroom grew.
6. Gills that are thin and white. The underside of this example shows the white gills of an Amanita. Just another thing to look for when trying to identify poisonous mushrooms. (http://www.mushroom-appreciation.com/identify-poisonous-mushrooms.html#sthash.9Szkw8P9.dpbs)

Buddha, I am sorry to say, was not enlightened and is not a god by any standard of the Bible. The God of the Bible, for example, had provided clues on mushrooms, and generations of men have established which are poisonous.

An enlightened person is cautious about things that he eats like the Apostle Peter and like the Prophet Ezekiel.

THE ACTS 10:13-14
13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.

Note that Peter remembered a principle taught to him earlier, and that was why he refused.

And here’s another principle:

EZEKIEL 4:14
Then said I, Ah Lord GOD! behold, my soul hath not been polluted: for from my youth up even till now have I not eaten of that which dieth of itself, or is torn in pieces; neither came there abominable flesh into my mouth.

A thing that poses danger to health and life, and was proven by the generations, must not be proved anymore by anyone using his intelligence and understanding. There is already a universal standard about it.

Drugs (the prohibited ones) are proven to be harmful to the human body. Drugs should be used in exact amount and doses, if the intention is to alleviate or cure humans' sufferings. Although there are drugs that can be bought over the counter, it doesn't mean that drugs that are not prohibited are always safe.

Statin drugs, for example, according to experts' studies, instead of preventing a heart attack may lead to a heart attack. My point is, if drugs not prohibited can cause harm, more so the dangerously harmful drugs tagged as "prohibited drugs."

Statin drugs which intent is to control the production of cholesterol by the liver, also hamper the production of other enzymes like CoQ10 that is necessary in the prevention of a heart attack. Therefore, the supposed intention is not fulfilled.

Trying to prove prohibited drugs is being reckless and insane. Wikipedia says, two of the most used and valuable illegal drugs in the Philippines are methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) and marijuana. Between these two, shabu is considered the more dangerous.

Shabu is mixed with substances such as battery acid, cough syrup, and many more.

What does it do?

Aside from altering your sleep, health, hygiene, and negatively affecting every aspect of your life, meth also destroys your emotions. And it does so gradually. At first, you’d think meth improves your life as it enhances your confidence, keeps you active, and makes you lose weight. Meth also causes permanent and even irreversible brain damage. (http://bridgesofhope.com.ph/index.php/2016/05/02/what-is-the-most-dangerous-drug-addiction/)

No wonder it is prohibited. According to research, shabu is powerfully and mysteriously attractive and is rampantly peddled in the streets all over the globe. But the incredibly intense high experienced by the addict from the drug is enough to blot out logic.

As I wrote in a previous blog, there is hope for drug addicts. Now that there are about a hundred of thousands of self-confessed addicts and pushers that surrendered to President Rody Duterte's administration, I want to share biblical wisdom that may give hope and total renovation in the being of a drug addict. Life is precious. There is hope for drug addicts.

ECCLESIASTES 9:4
For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.

 More to follow.

And before I could go any further with my vices, which are smoking and drinking, I encountered the Truths of God true the Ang Dating Daan Program. Now, with God's help, I am living a life free of intoxicating vices.
I am excited to see the partnership of the Members Church of God International and the Duterte Government in rehabilitating the recovering drug addicts.

  15. I have tried smoking marijuana when I was only 11 years old. I continued using it when there was a chance until adulthood. Due to my curiosity, I have tried, pills, cough syrup and shabu during my teens till my 30's. Although I cannot say that I was a drug addict since I can survive without using them, but I am always ready to try them whenever any substance would be available. I am open with drugs until I was baptized on April of 2000. All of my vices was erased from my system instantly. I thank God for calling me in His true church. I cannot imagine where I would be right now if I haven't heard the voice of Bro Eli Soriano. He is really sent by God for all of us to be save from all the sins of this world. Drugs addicts will just have to surrender not only to government authorities but to GOD and entrust themselves to HIM & put their full trust to what GOD can do for them instead of relying to a fellow man.

  36. Precisely!

An enlightened person is cautious of things that he eats. He is also careful about things that he has to prove. For the wise, things that are already proven to be good or bad need not to be proven anymore. Illegal drugs which are already proven to cause ill and debilitating effects should not be proven anymore by testing it to oneself. Doing so is tantamount to being unwise, reckless and insane.

But even if a person gets hooked and becomes addicted to prohibited drugs, there is still hope. Total renovation is still possible. Life, even that of drug addicts, is too precious for us to undervalue, ignore and waste. May God help all those who wish to start over with a new life.

  40. I never realized how broad this verse is: I Thessalonians 5:21-22 (KJV)
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the reason why I’m not so surprised is because whenever you read or hear how Bro.ELI elaborate something , IT WOULD really ENLIGHTEN YOU. Unfortunately, Siddhartha Gautama (BUDDHA) have already existed long time, before BRO. ELI was born. If he did, he would have been “AN” ENLIGHTENED ONE. Not “THE” ENLIGHTENED ONE. Simply because BRO.ELI does not teach anything that’s not biblical. And what’s really so fascinating about this is the fact that every MCGI have been educated and informed of this simple logic: “You are not the LIGHT if you are only enlightened”.

Some readers especially the skeptics and the antagonists would probably say that Buddha has nothing to do with DRUGS or DRUG ADDICTION. Actually there is. You just have to be meticulously logical to see the connection. THE KEY TO PACIFY ADDICTION IS TO ABSTAIN FROM IT. And if you ignore the wisdom behind that verse, you would not see the connection, which is – the irony about BUDDHA’s enlightenment. If Buddha believed in GOD and the BIBLE, he would not even be dissuaded to eat the poisonous mushroom because he would have a holy spirit that would make him abstain from it. Having none, manifests that his enlightenment was not even given to him by GOD. That is “IF” he was even enlightened at all. And anyone who is ENLIGHTENED would never even try drugs because the appearance of it is already evil.

I would admit that I have taken drugs before in the form of ANABOLIC STEROIDS. Illegal drugs in any form would get your mind addicted into it because it makes you think that you meet your needs by doing drugs. I was hooked on it because I was lifting weights. But all wonderful things which are evil inspired are temporal. I thank GOD that I got out of it. When I became an MCGI, I learned that we have to literally take care of our body because it is the temple of GOD. As to the body of church which is the really temple of GOD. Drugs will never make our body HIS temple, be it literally or figuratively. I thank GOD for this ENLIGHTENMENT.

Thanks be to GOD Bro.ELI for another un-astonishing blog. You are THE ENLIGHTENED ONE because GOD opened your eyes to see all these.
    TO GOD BE THE GLORY.

Now what I understand about this informative blog is about whats buddhism or how this kind of faith fails, because Buddha is not as somepeople now that he is enlightened but whats right is he died of eating poisonous mushroom because of his ignorance about it. Next is about what drugs good and bad effects in the physical and even spiritual human beings, like some drugs like statin drugs and mariwana can do to cure some dease or illments if its use in right dosage, while in contrary some drugs like methamphetamine can slowly damage and may kill person who is in use of it. And last what Ive understand and write in my heart is a Gods told in the bible that you should do to find out the Lords Kingdom for you to know whatvyou should do, not only that but also about being ignorance is a sin. Thanks Be to God.

Every individual do mistakes but we can assure comfort through the words from the bible using by a sensible preacher spreading it. It's not only assurance but also, it opens our mind from choosing what is right from what is wrong. By this time, we definitely know that we shouldn't believe even an inch to the teaching of Buddhism. It sucks to know that an assumed enlightened one died from only a poisonous mushroom. He should know it but then, by the looks of his many statue, he's a voracious eater not even minding what he eats! This should gives the Buddhist to think twice and trice on what to believe.

But the logic is they are the one that victims in using it. The pusher to have a sideline and easy to get a money in this kind of illegal way. People doing it because they saw that it is fitted to do to survive this difficult life. The user also many struggles are feel, he cannot solve it as well that's why the best armor he think is to take drugs to forget the problems. People want to leave their problems, that's why drugs attract them. They didn't know their problems are still there and no matter what taking drugs they use still there is. So what the best solution in this problem, I remembered that bro. Daniel said there is a people confront him to help those people that facing this problem. Kudos to Pres. Duterte for advocating the prevention of drugs here in the Philippines. Though rumors are spreading around about him related to extra judicial killings, but whether he or not be the person behind the killings in drug related cases, I still admire his advocacy anyway.

First thing is that of being cautious of what they called "enlightened" god of India who is Buddha. Honestly, it was my first time to read about this thing that Buddha died because of eating a kind of poisonous mushroom. Another one is about drugs. Based on your article "Drugs (the prohibited ones)" and that is true! no one could deny it, that some drugs or illegal drugs is prohibited because as we know about illegal drugs it can kill and destroy life and human behavior of a person. Again, it is good to know about this information that you wrote for us to learn and gain something good and different, technically, morally and spiritually. This blog also serve as an awareness for all the people who didn't know what is happening for those issues in our country and serious issues that may encounter or will may encounter in our country Philippines especially about the issue of DRUGS. 80. another blog that proves how profound and authentic the Bible is, Thanks be to God for these knowledge, that even in the deep part of the dark, where minds and bodies are slaved by different drugs, the hope from God still would penetrate.

  81. Thanks be to God for his wisdom shared with us. This blog can be the tool for the takers of drugs to prevent their addiction because they can use this as a motivation. Drugs is not a recreational doing that you may take it if you are bored or you have a problem this can be taken only for temporary cure or to be calm if you have sick, but drugs like Shabu and marijuana is not a drugs that you want to take 24 hours a day. This is can be able to abuse your brain and your body. I have known someone who is taken a drug and he is our neighbor, he always approaches his mother about on his everyday seeing in their house, he saw always a guy, a girl, and child appearing when he is cleaning their front yard. What's the point is, drug can make you active, but that is only a temporary happiness, and the effect of this on you is to break your own precious LIFE.

  82. Addiction in any justification is a problem however you put it. Why? Because it is a severe dependency and ultimate obsession over something or someone which just defies the norm of GOD's creation. We were not born to get ourselves addicted on anything at all. There is an abundance of anything we could need to live. A sufficiency of anything we could want. A satisfaction for all that desire. And so to be addicted on something is just an UNFAIR thing for the many creations GOD wants us to enjoy. It is not proper for us to want something so bad that we would risk everything we have just to attain or want something desperately to satisfy us.
A friend of mine told me that addiction could be channeled properly. Like addiction in reading the bible and addiction to the words of GOD. He also added that Bro.ELI is a bible addict. I beg to disagree. Bro.ELI fell in love with GOD’s words because of his calling. It was not an addiction. Addiction is craving for something your body cannot live without. Bro.ELI’s crave was the fulfillment of his heart and soul. And the desire to share that love to humanity for the salvation of their souls.
According to addiction.com, there are 10 TOP addictions in the society that most people from all over the world are hooked into. They are namely: 1. Coffee(caffeine soda) 2. Gambling(money or risking) 3. Anger(Terrorism vengeance) 4.Food(Sweet and gluttony) 5.The Internet(Social media) 6.Sex(fornication porn) 7.Alcoholism(intoxication beer) 8.Drugs(meth marijuana heroin) 9.Nicotine(smoking cigarettes) and 10.Work(love for money and job. Career obsession.) Notice that these are all addictions of the flesh. The reason why none of the reasons here is spiritual is perhaps because GOD didn’t want us to be addicted to serving HIM but to be willing to serve HIM with all our heart, mind and soul. And I thank GOD I learned this from the Church of GOD International.
Thanks be to GOD for a BRO.ELI who introduced me to GOD through the bible.
    TO GOD BE THE GLORY.

  83. In this blog, it is right that drug addicts can be cure. It is not literally in an instance but it takes time and patience. I agree on the part that drugs are really harmful to the human body. It is truly impossible that a person who is enlightened by God can't determine the poisonous food to non-poisonous. I believe that God won't let anyone be in danger that's why he makes his own way that people can determine and understand.
As the platform of our new president, i hope that it is just the beginning of his quote "change is coming". Drug addicts are now surrendering their selves to the recent administration. I hope there are more of these people. But of course biblical words in the bible and faith in God are the powerful and possible way of cure, that can help these people change their lives and renew themselves again to God.

I believe that #ThereIsHopeForDrugAddicts and it is not impossible when it comes to God. Drugs are very harmful to the human body. Word of God is a powerful medicine. I hope that the drug addicts will not only surrender themselves to the administration but to God and trust Him and have faith. Thanks be to God.

  85. Overeating, like what happened to the god of the Buddhist, can kill someone. Same in drugs, when abused, can control you and your rationality and end up creating chaos. Drug addicts are victims of lack of faith, hope, and love, but drug addicts need to realize that there is still hope, they just can't see it.

One of the most important points that I have learned in this blog is the essence and power of hope. It changed my thinking about giving up on things that I think I can't do and it inspired me to never lose hope.So I believe that this inspirational blog can help change drug addicts and give them hope that they still have a chance to realize, change, and correct their mistakes.

  86. "An enlightened person is cautious about what he eats." I think this is a statement fit for those people who have been curious about drugs but resisted the temptations. These people know what dangers they are going to experience so they stopped thinking about it. There are those people who were affected by drug addiction but with enough willpower and faith, they overcame this addiction and are now trying to have a new life. But there are those people who have little chance of recovery for they do not have enough knowledge, willpower and faith to do so. How will these people acquire these three traits? Read the Bible for the Holy Scriptures teach us many things, believe in God and give us hope. Thanks be to God for this blog for I truly learned something about drug addiction.

  87. If the greater evil must have greater punishment then I will agree to the order of battle against the drug lords to be shoot to kill because they make the society wicked because of profit. It's like cutting the root of a tree then all the tree die down.

  88. We must not use drugs like shabu and marijuana, if we don't want to be like the other people who just waste their lives. If we want to be enlightened, Bro. Eli is willing to share biblical words so we must grab the oppotunity to listen to him, if we want to have a better life. It is better to be addicted in listening to the words of God than to be addicted with drugs. The words of God is the only cure to those people who is an addict but willing to change. There's still a hope for drug addicts. I hope they can read the blogs of Bro. Eliseo Soriano. ☺

  89. The effects of drugs in our body is very dangerous. Many people are in to it and keeps on using drugs. Their body is completely affected as well as their families. People who are using drugs ( non medically prescribed drugs) were having a hard time on quiting because they are really addicted to it. But with God's help there's a big possibility for a person to change and turn back to a better person. Another part of this blog strike me was the statement : "An enlightened person is cautious about things that he eats" This denies the implications about Buddha on being the enlightened one due to the reason of being not cautious on what he eats. The statements gave us a lesson as well not just to be cautious on what we eat but on how to speak and interact with others in a Christian way. Thanks be to God

  90. Illegal drugs can never be good to anyone. Granting, some say that the effects are unexplainable as they get high, but the thing is illegal drugs destroy a person physically, emotionally, socially, and of course spiritually. Thanks be to God that He still gives the people (especiay the drug addicts) hope to repent from their sins. The part that struck me is when mr. Controversy said "Life is precious, There is hope for drug addicts" then adding the verse, Ecle 9:4. So, hope is not only for drug addicts but also to the people that still do evil things. Thanks be to God!

Now he hides, he killed someone and I believe the reason of it was drug addiction. I hope he could read this blog and be enlighten, for him to change his path and be a drug addiction free. I thank God that I, and my own family are not drug addict, for I have known the true essence of life and not destructing it by such things.

  93. We must give importance to our Life. Life is given by God. Clearly undertood here that we should be aware in everything we eat. Sometimes we do not know that it can harm us.

I like when this blog goes. Is starts with a brief explanation of what Buddhism and Buddha - who died of eating a dangerous mushrooms. Therefore he is not aware so we can considered that he is not an enlightened one. I also like this line, " An enlightened one is cautious." Then, the explanation of drugs comes next, which Duterte's administration tries to avoid.

If not all mushrooms are good mushrooms, not all drugs are safe.

To all drug addicts, there is hope for all of you. Find it so you'll be enlightened.

This blog is really sensible and beneficial to us who read it. Thumbs up!

Thanks be to God for wonderful learning!

  94. I like it when the author stated the story of Buddha's death. It only proves that Buddha wasn't a god at all, but a normal person like us. I agree that not all drugs can cause harm to people, but prohibited drugs are, like "shabu". All in all, I find this blog informative and true since the author used the Bible as one of his references.

By that, I am really thankful to God because my friend's mnd was enlightened that using drugs not give him benefits but it can give him different problems's in terms of his health and for he realzed the true essence of our lives which is to serve the Lord our God.

  97. Thanks be to God for another topic that you've done for us to know different issues related on illegal drugs or simply drugs especially now in our country Philippines that those drugs was widely spread by different corners in the City. As written in your article, based on Wikipedia ,the two of the most common drugs illegally known here in the Philippines are Methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) and Marijuana. I also noticed that when Duterte elected as a president, a lot of people surrendered themselves to confess about something they did in connection of being a drug addict, I think one rationale that I can say here is; they surrendered themselves for them to become a hundred percent free in drugs, by means of counseling and rehabilitation. So, I really agreed when you wrote that THERE IS A HOPE FOR DRUG ADDICTS. I like this topic because another varied and erudition knowledge I added as one of my learnings in life. Thanks be to God.

They just need to change and believe in their self because there still chance for them, even our President are believing, that’s why he gave a chance to those drug addicts to surrender and they will help them to change. But of course if they believe in God it can help them a lot not only in physical but also in their spiritual.

  101. If food killed the Buddhists' god which overeats, it is also more possible for drugs to kill and to give the urge to kill to people who abuses the substance. Drugs, when abused, are dangerous to the user and its environment because drugs can take away an individual's rationality that could be the cause of chaos.
I believe that this blog can touch people's heart. So I wish drug addicts can read this blog to help them have faith and hope that they can still change.

  102. I really admire of how this blog written :). People should read the Bible and learn to apply the words of God written in it to our daily lives, because Bible can really change us of what person we are used to. Buddha was a so called "god" in his time.Because of not knowing the words of God the really God in the Bible, he didn't even know how to distinguish of which mushroom should be eaten by him. It is also like the people nowadays, not everyone knows the commandments of God in the Bible and His words that is why most of the people taking the wrong path of life, like for the given example- they uses drugs and became drug addicts. I believe on what the hashtag says on the blog "There Is Hope For Drug Addicts" because if people get to know more about God and His words it is possible that they will not waste their life. To God Be The Glory :)

  114. Drugs can cause our life miserable in just one use, that's why those drug addicts need to stop using it because drug may cause their life in to death. “Drugs are proven to be harmful to the human body.” Yes it is, some news about drugs are the proof, it can killed people’s life, most of drug addicts can kill fellow man because they are high and lost themselves when they use prohibited one. I’m very thankful that Pres. Duterte has paid attention to it and gives his best to accomplish it. I pray for his success. Bible verses are the proof that Only God can help them to stop using drugs. There’s still hope for drug addicts. Thanks be to God
