There Is Hope For Drug Addicts

Read the first part of this blog here.

The proverb in Tagalog, “Habang may buhay, may pagasa" (While there is life, there is hope) is biblical.

ECCLESIASTES 9:4
For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.

I am a witness to this fact that in the Members Church of God International (MCGI), the powerful hand of God has been recreating people through the power of faith.

THE ACTS 26:18
To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

It is through faith that God works his works, transforming one. This transformation through faith is achieved by the mercy of God.

TITUS 3:5
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to HIS MERCY he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

God’s power and mercy may regenerate or recreate us through faith.

II CORINTHIANS 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Living examples
There are some ministers of the MCGI and many members who are former drug addicts. Particularly those that were converted through our Prison Ministry, they have become God-fearing and responsible persons and family men. Take note that they were not members before they were imprisoned but only converted when in prison.

I have seen how these men– former drug addicts-struggle hard through faith to let go their vices and addiction to obey God's call. Now, with God’s help and mercy, some of them have become able ministers of the gospel and are living examples for others who want to change. There is really hope for drug addicts!

How does this happen?
The word of God is quick and powerful that works within a person of faith.

HEBREWS 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The word of God is received – if received - and it is what works within one that believes.

I THESSALONIANS 2:13
For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

What is drug addiction

Addiction is defined as a chronic, relapsing brain disease that is characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use, despite harmful consequences. It is considered a brain disease because drugs change the brain; they change its structure and how it works. These brain changes can be long lasting and can lead to many harmful, often self-destructive, behaviors. (https://www.drugabuse.gov/publications/media-guide/science-drug-abuse-addiction-basics)

Can’t we just leave working on drug addiction to science?
Science is helping end addiction and is using new research. But scientific efforts are not enough to renew drug addicts. It is plain to see literature on drug addiction admit limitations of science.

When addiction research started in the 1930s, addiction was seen primarily as a moral failing rather than as a public health issue. Since then, we have made great strides in our understanding of the disease and neurobiology. There is still much to accomplish to understand the range of genetic variations and other medical consequences related to addiction. Important scientific research must continue — and expand — if we are to break addiction’s grip on our society. (http://www.shatterproof.org/pages/science-of-addiction)

There is this quote from Blaise Pascal that says, “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every person which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God, the Creator.” Pascal is a 1600’s mathematician and philosopher.

But what does science say? Deep within our being is a vacuum to be filled with the most powerful influence in our lives and that is faith in God! It was discovered by modern scientists that in a particular area of our brains exists this vacuum!

In a report by Arthur Martin, it appears that humans are programmed to believe in God. And this is so because it gives them a better chance of survival. The report said -

…The findings of Bruce Hood, professor of developmental psychology at Bristol University, suggest that magical and supernatural beliefs are hardwired into our brains from birth, and that religions are therefore tapping into a powerful psychological force. His work is supported by other researchers who have found evidence linking religious feelings and experience to particular regions of the brain. They suggest people are programmed to receive a feeling of spirituality from electrical activity in these areas. (“Why we are born to believe in God: It's wired into the brain, says psychologist,” Dailymail, UK (9/7/2009).

Believing in the supernatural is not "something stupid" as claimed by atheists. It was proven scientifically that the supernatural links to a spot in the depth of our being. It is in this vacuum that the truth about God and His teachings must occupy. Otherwise would spell disaster. Filling this vacuum with man-invented teachings and fairytales is the main cause of perversion.

MARK 7:7
Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

THE ROMANS 10:3
For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

The cause of it all
Refusal to submit to God's will is the cause of all evil and perversion in man including drug addiction because the mind has been squatted upon with perverse things. The spot reserved for The Almighty has been dedicated to false pleasure.

THE ROMANS 1:28-32
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

The real cause and root of all evil in human society are man-invented teachings and false religions! They have influenced terrorism, extremism, fanaticism, and atheism, leading men to reject the truth in the Holy Scriptures!

Such rejection has had its heavy consequences: the belief in a lie.And it is heavy because the owner of those words one must acknowledge, punishes those who disregard Him and his will. These verses are not lying -

II THESSALONIANS 2:11-12
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

In a drug abuser or addict, the abuse becomes abuse and the addiction becomes addiction due to repeated behavior. But the cycle can be broken when that vacuum in man responds to the call of God for change. The lies placed in the mind must be cleaned out and the configuration corrected with the words of God, so that the vacuum reserved for His Maker can be rightly activated and connect with the man. Then the love for drugs can be rooted out.

  2. I believe the continuity of the meaning of the words used in the bible. I learned it from bro. Eli. I know there's more deeper meaning on Ecclesiastes 9:4 about dogs and lions. I can't help but a thought keep bothering me that dogs are compared to false preachers and roaring lion is satan or lion of judah that prevail. I hope I can compare them to drug pushers and drug lords so that the dogs have hope too.

You can have the best doctor in the world, the most advance therapy and the best treatment technology could give, but without GOD's intervention to change you --- you will just be another recycled newspaper. The word of GOD is so powerful that it could change you totally.

Addiction in any justification is a problem however you put it. Why? Because it is a severe dependency and ultimate obsession over something or someone which just defies the norm of GOD's creation. We were not born to get ourselves addicted on anything at all. There is an abundance of anything we could need to live. A sufficiency of anything we could want. A satisfaction for all that desire. And so to be addicted on something is just an UNFAIR thing for the many creations GOD wants us to enjoy. It is not proper for us to want something so bad that we would risk everything we have just to attain or want something desperately to satisfy us.
A friend of mine told me that addiction could be channeled properly. Like addiction in reading the bible and addiction to the words of GOD. He also added that Bro.ELI is a bible addict. I beg to disagree. Bro.ELI fell in love with GOD’s words because of his calling. It was not an addiction. Addiction is craving for something your body cannot live without. Bro.ELI’s crave was the fulfillment of his heart and soul. And the desire to share that love to humanity for the salvation of their souls.
According to addiction.com, there are 10 TOP addictions in the society that most people from all over the world are hooked into. They are namely: 1. Coffee(caffeine soda) 2. Gambling(money or risking) 3. Anger(Terrorism vengeance) 4.Food(Sweet and gluttony) 5.The Internet(Social media) 6.Sex(fornication porn) 7.Alcoholism(intoxication beer) 8.Drugs(meth marijuana heroin) 9.Nicotine(smoking cigarettes) and 10.Work(love for money and job. Career obsession.) Notice that these are all addictions of the flesh. The reason why none of the reasons here is spiritual is perhaps because GOD didn’t want us to be addicted to serving HIM but to be willing to serve HIM with all our heart, mind and soul. And I thank GOD I learned this from the Church of GOD International.
Thanks be to GOD for a BRO.ELI who introduced me to GOD through the bible.
    TO GOD BE THE GLORY.

  13. There's nothing impossible in God. He can change us from being drug-addict into a good person, if we are willing to change and trust our faith to Him. Bro. Eli already gave an example of people who already changed in order for us to eliminate the doubt to believe on what he said. In Ecclesiastes 9:4, we are still alive so we still have hope. So don't lose hope,we can change our life with the help and mercy of God. To God Be The Glory!

  14. Is the best solution to fight drug addiction about rehabilitation centers? Finding a top treatment center for a drug addiction is one of the best steps toward a successful recovery. And in the U.S., the top three facilities which had the highest percentage of cure are: Hazelden Betty Ford – The Caron Foundation – Wernersville, Pennsylvania
Ocean Breeze Recovery – Pompano Beach, Florida. While this is statistically accurate, you would have to be able to afford the admission fee and obviously would have to go to the U.S.A. if you're not from there. But surely upon your release or discharge, the probability of needing the same treatment is still slim if not horrendous.  So what's the best intervention available that is least expensive and dependable? You guessed it right: THE WORD OF GOD.

Needless to quantify,  the number of drug addicts who have been healed by the grace and mercy of God through the indoctrination in the Church of God International -- remains sober . Thanks be to God.

Because the highest technology and the highest science is that of the Divine Creator Himself.  This blog says it all. To God be the Glory.

Accepting God's word is the most effective, permanent treatment that will transform all drug addicts to become a renewed person. This is very much evident in the Members Church of God International (MCGI). Thanks be to God for saving addicts and giving hope to the hopeless!

  18. Good day and Happy 2nd day of PBB mga kapatid. I heartedly thanks be to God again for the opportunity to read this knowledgable and wisdom based on the true doctrines of God, also a million thanks be to God for the two preachers He give to us, who teach us all possible right facts, and wisdom about bible. What I understand to this blog is about whats God words can do to those person who has been addicted to drugs, We as humans are leaving to this world because of God, we are leaving for a because we have to do something for him to praise him and to obey all he want us to do, also we are leaving for our self for us to go to heaven, but the question is how can we get it? What pathway we have to enter for us to go to heaven? And is it true that theres hope for drug addicts? What Ive understand to this blog are the answers for the questions I created in my mind when I was reading the title of this blog. We need to do it step by step first is to listen and understand, second is to accept it, third is to listen and understand it with faith, and last but not the least is to look for the true church to those person who preach and obey the real and true doctrines of the bible. If all these steps are being performed correctly you can now assume that you have all of this a forgiveness from God,a church who can be your rehabilitation, a better life, roots of addiction will be lost, and a line to heaven. And you can also assume that theres now hope for drug addicts.

A million thanks be to God.
    Happy 2nd PBB.

  28. Truly God is working through mysterious ways. As the previous blog says, addiction to drugs is kind of a cancer in the society. It destroys a person mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. In here, i accurately agree to the part that there are people who are living miracle in their faith to God's mercy. All people even those in prison has a chance to change. I like the part that stated "addiction was seen primarily as a moral failing rather than as a public health issue", And it is really happening. To end, addiction is what causes life's destruction but through God's mercy everthing is possible.

Many people got addicted to this and some of them want to stop their addiction in to drugs, I believe that they can change and leave it behind. 32. Another topic that you think and wrote for us! :) thanks be to God! :) This topic entitled; THERE IS HOPE FOR DRUG ADDICTS has a similarity idea from your previous blog, and that idea is to have a chance or opportunity for a person who is suffering from a drug addition. Biblically speaking, he has a lot and huge chance to change from his bad doings to good and worthwhile person again. As written in your blog, based on Bible from the book of ECCLESIASTES 9:4 it says that; For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion. FOR HIM THAT IS JOINED TO ALL THE LIVING THERE IS HOPE. There is a hope because of the words of God that is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, based from the book of HEBREW 4:12, and nothing is impossible! through the word of God. He will bless you, He will save you and of course, He can change you by His powerful words!

  38. My aunt's neighbor is a drug addict for so long as I remembered. The prohibited drugs he took already damaged his brain and his body. Every time he took drugs he went up to their roof which is same level of my aunt''s room. One window facing to that roof where this man is waiting and you already know why. For many times, my aunt confronted this person and told him she will file a complaint to barangay captain/police. Up to this date, he is not changing even after his rehabilitation. It is my aunt who did some precaution, she is fed up for confrontation.

The rehabilitation centers may lessen the addiction, but not that much to stop it - badly, they return to their vices again. And it seems as far as my aunt's neighbor is concerned, there is no hope for him.

This blog change the views of many - that drug addicts are hopeless, will not change anymore, that will continue to be sores of this society- there is hope for them: God's word! Life is precious, and "habang may buhay-may pag-asa".

Thanks be to God for the hope.

  39. I personally knew someone who had been using prohibited drugs for so long. He was consistently invited by his friend who is a member of MCGI/Ang Dating Daan to attend the Bible Exposition and the Mass Indoctrination for many years - five or six years I guess. He just say " I will go Pare" but no show.

Until last June, surprisingly he went to our locale and attended the Bible Exposition after an invitation again. According to him, in his mind he will show only up to two days. Monday night, opening of Mass Indoctrination, he came again. And in his though it will be the last. Tuesday night came, he cannot explain his feeling, something or someone is telling him to attend again, unexplained- he finished the indoctrination. He said to his friend, "baptism thing needs a lot of thinking". He was not included in the mass baptism. One week after, he came to locale and told his friend, "I will go for baptism Pare, when will be that day. I am sleepless for one week Pare. And someone is to telling me to go." Thanks be to GOD, July 1, he was baptized.

We saw total conversion from this man, a previous drug addict, drunker, many vices as he confessed to the brothers and sisters in one locale gathering. According to him, his mother who is old already, is very happy to see him not drinking beer with his friends. Not anymore staying in the street for the rest of the night. His mother is in peace of mind after his conversion. He said, he now sees his mother concern and love to him and realized all the troubles he gave to her when he was not yet baptized.

His testimony is one many assurance that drug addicts have hope. They can change to good with God's help and mercy. Thanks be to God!

  41. Yeah. It is true that there is a hope for the drug addicts. All of us use drugs but it was bad when we abuse it. I truly believe that it was not their purpose to be in that situation. To be a drug addict in the eyes of the society. On being a cancer. I know that those are not their purpose. They are just like ruin by worldy things or we must say, by Satan. I really agree on what the blog said that even they are not good in the eyes of the society, there still a hope for them. All people have a chance to change even the worst person. In the end, God's mercy will be prevail.

Will they decide to submit back to the words of GOD? The same situation when Jesus told the rich man to give up his wealth and follow him. Drug lords are lovers of money. They will turn everything down to their path just to acquire those wealth that prohibited drugs are offering. With it there's no hope for them!

If every people get to know more of God they are possibly taking the right path and continue it. Having God in our lives is like living with no worries because He works in our life more than we do. The Lord loves us that is why He gave His son to die for our sin and the life we have now is not taking it for granted but to give it back to Him by serving and loving people. Being a drug addict does not define of who we are in this world but it define of how our heart love and want to know Him. Changing is God's action in our lives and a little help to ourselves. 51. We humans are created with a will to choose whatever we want but if we understand and we read a book about who is God in the bible we can now know what we are leaving for. Now based in what Ive understand to this blog that the problem about addictions in illegal drugs is in a major case now and there are lots of illegal drugs that can be used to destroy family, built community of dangerous people, education stop and the worst is to slow kill person. Is there any solution for that? Based on what blogs said that the best cure for all of the addictions humans created and used is Gods words written in the bible. If a person listen, understand, accept, and obey it with faith the possibility is they will stop doing bad things like addiction is drugs. Gods wisdom is truly powerful because in the bible in one verse it is said that God is not lair to His promise and words and He wants us to be saved. After all of this drug users can assume now and also the whole world can say that THERES HOPE FOR DRUG USERS.

    Thanks be to God.

This is how powerful God can be in changing people's lives but we must also consider the man's actions when hearing God's words. If an addict is willing enough to change for God, God will work His ways to renew the addict's life. His ways cannot be compared to the ways of sciences for science can be faulty but God will not for He is always right. Thanks be to God for I have learned of God's ways in changing people's lives.

  61. There is hope for the drug users and drug addicts. Through faith in God we can realize what wrong we have done and that we should change it. God is the most powerful shield against evil. Listening and accepting God's word is the most effective treatment for the drug addicts. "With God everything is possible."

  62. I've seen many examples of people who, once been a victim of the addicting drugs, in which despite of their dreadful experience, stood up and surmounted.

And what I've learned in this blog is that, scientifically, humans are programmed to believe in God, it is wired in our brains, which gives us a powerful psychological force to surpass whatever challenges that may occur.

And my favorite part of this blog is "In a drug abuser or addict, the abuse becomes abuse and the addiction becomes addiction due to repeated behavior. But the cycle can be broken when that vacuum in man responds to the call of God for change."

    Truly, #ThereIsHopeForDrugAddicts.

  63. There is really hope for drug addicts if they believe in God. He is powerful. It showed here in the blog a strong proof that Bible is also explaining scientifically. Bible has accurate, precise, and complete basis. It proved that people can be changed by God's mercy. But if you refuse God in your life, you'll never see the light behind His power - the power that will change the bad into good. God wants us to be in good and to be enlightened. Drug addicts, change for the better! Find the truth and never look back with your vices. With God's love and mercy, He is ready to help you if you believe Him. Have faith and live as a true Christian!

Thanks be to God for this hope! For that people, who are drug addicts, can be changed into something better if they follow God's call for them! To God be the Glory.

  64. Eveything is possible for those who truly believe in God's word. Just have faith and believe in the miracles that is happening in everyday of our lives. It is not impossible for a drug addict not to have hope to change because God touches our hearts to do good things which is our human nature. We have our different Dark Nights like being addicted into different things not only in drugs and by this we are taking risks in order to surpass it. We should always remember that we have to surrender ourselves fully to each moment, knowing that there is always a hand to guide us which is the hand of the Lord.
    Thanks be to God.

  65. Two thumbs up!!!
There are many people that lost their hope and end up being an drug addict...for me only GOD almighty can help us restore who we are we just need to believe on what he can do. Like what the blogger says "the abuse becomes abuse and the addiction becomes addiction due to repeated behavior" that only GOD can rooted out one persons addiction. My love one also became a victim of this matter and I just utter a prayer day by day and finally with GOD's help and mercy he changed. So I believe that #ThereIsHopeForDrugAddicts

I really agreed hen you wrote this popular proverb in Tagalog, “Habang may buhay, may pagasa" Once again, thanks be to God :)

  70. While we believe that drug addicts have hope it looks like that most of the killing done in drug campaign in the Philippines tells me otherwise.
The worst part is that most of them are nobody. Although, thousands of them have surrendered but some are better off inside the prison than roaming around outside. Every day extra-judicial killings are rampant. The numbers are going up but I believe the masters are still out there to kill.

  71. At this time it's not safe to visit the Philippines because it's just easy for them to kill you and get away with it by simply planting a sachet of shabu in your pocket. The Duterte government must think twice about this drug campaign on a humane manner against the pawns and run after the kings and its officials. It's becoming obvious as days past by.

  72. Starting a new life for a drug addict is not that easy. But if that person is willing to change nothing is impossible specially when that person put God first as a first step for a new life. God can do anything, heal those abused body and the most important safe people's soul.

  73. The word of God is powerful to transform any drug addict to a loving & caring Christian! Without God's help, however science may advance, will never be enough to truly convert a drug addict. May God bless the souls of this drug addicts and that they may find true peace and may they truly change.

  76. In this blog, “Habang may buhay, may pag-asa.” is indeed true. The fact that God still gives us a chance to live here on earth is just simply saying that you still have a chance to change your wrong doings and shortcomings and live a better life. There’s no point on making your life more miserable instead transform. Transform through faith which you can achieve by the mercy of God. As stated in 1 Timothy 2:4, “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” Thanks be to God!

  83. Don't lose hope even you're a drug addict because there's always a hope. When there is life, there is hope as mentioned above. We all have the chance to change and to be a better person with God's help. Instead of using drugs and became addicted on it, let our time and effort to serve God while we are alive and while He was given us the opportunity. Surrender our lives unto Him. There's no benefits you can have when you used it. It would only ruin your lives and affect everything in you. Just do good works and follow all the words of God. He will save you because He want all of us to be saved. The word of God is quick and powerful that works within a person of faith. (Hebrew 4:12) Thanks be to God!
