How Do We Forgive Those Who Did Us Wrong?

The Spiritual Benefits of Forgiving Those Who Did Us Wrong

Physicists say that, for every action there is always an equal or opposite reaction. This is most especially true in terms of human nature. Humans react to stimuli. Human nature dictates that if somebody did us something good or anything favorable, we reciprocate that gesture as a sign of our appreciation to the goodness rendered unto us. We treat that person nicely; we do him good also. But if somebody did us wrong, we retaliate by doing him evil also. It sometimes reaches a point that, even after years had passed, that offense remains unforgotten, implying that the offender has not been forgiven either.

But how should a Christian react if somebody committed a sin against him, or if somebody did him an offense?

First of all, a Christian’s rightful reaction is to be happy. If somebody sinned against you, you have to be happy because God is giving you an opportunity to forgive. The Father allowed that person to do you evil because He wants you to learn the virtue of being forgiving. This may sound weird to others but this is biblical. Actually, we will benefit from forgiving our offenders because, in doing so, we will, likewise, merit God’s forgiveness for the sins that we have committed.

MATTHEW 6:14 says,

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

The Father always exercises justice. He gives what is due us.

MATTHEW 5:7 (KJV) says,

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

If you show mercy to others, God will also be merciful to you. If we forgive, He will be forgiving to us also.

If somebody has done you wrong, do not be mad because that is an opportunity that the Father is giving you to forgive, for you to be forgiven, too, because you also commit sins.

ECCLESIASTES 7:20 says,

For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

All men sin, even the most holy men who lived on earth committed sins. That is, of course, excluding the Lord Jesus Christ because even when He manifested Himself in the flesh, He did not commit any sin. But the holiest men who lived on earth, like Job, Daniel, Noah, Abraham, Mary and Joseph, and all the other holy men recorded in the Bible for their values and faith, also committed sins. So, no man is sinless in the sight of God. But by learning how to forgive, we may be found blameless through the grace of God’s forgiveness.

Actually, you will not find it difficult to forgive if you would only realize that in forgiving your offenders you are doing yourself a great favor. You will merit God’s mercy; you will merit His forgiveness.

Learning how to forgive is learning how to love oneself. If you love yourself, you would always think of what is best for you. And winning God’s forgiveness is one of the best things that could ever happen to a person. Amen.

Kuya Daniel's " ANG PAGGAWA NG MABUTI AY HINDI MAGBUBUNGA NG MASAMA " a wonderful slogan ! It will push all of us to do good to everyone specially the poor and the needy . Our Lord Jesus also teaches us to love our enemy .To do good deeds to our fellowman even to our enemy is a true love of God !!!

  16. In my life, at an early age, life had been thought me how cruel it might be. With all these, when that time comes and God made someone as an instrument for me to come near him and embrace him dearly, I later realized that forgiving someone who wronged me is also forgiving myself in the process. In my darkest day and biggest downfall, Gog guided me through his way and his grace made me for who I am today.

  22. God is the best example for that. God Created us but we’re making sins. What he did? He forgive us. He forgive us from many sins and big sins. God want to tell us that he forgive us. So, theres have a reason to forgive other. And we don’t have any reason to not forgive others.
