The Dangers of Disregarding God’s Words to Humanity

Obedience to God during COVID-19 Pandemic

The disturbing things that are happening to mankind today had already been prophesied in the Bible.

In REVELATION 6:8 (KJV) it says,

And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

This revelation given to John is indeed very scary. Imagine, Death and Hades were given power over the fourth part of the earth. They will cause the death of many by sword and hunger. One possible way by which it could happen is that they will instigate conflicts and wars which could result in the destruction and closure of many businesses and industries, which, in turn, could lead to hunger or starvation. And as we know, when people hunger, they become ruthless and lawless, hence, it is not a remote possibility that they will also kill, or be ready to die, for food.

All these are the doings of the horseman riding on the pale horse whose name is Death. It is a spirit that comes from Satan, and its task is to create dread and terror to the whole world as it brings plagues, hunger, wars, and infectious diseases caused by wild animals.

If we look around us now, it is apparent that the horseman who sat on the pale horse is busy in carrying out its mission. He is provoking nations to wage war against each other; and presently, he is killing people without mercy through a virus which health experts named COVID-19. We can only hope and pray that he will fail to fully accomplish his mission, at least, for now, not yet.

With the spread of this coronavirus worldwide, humanity is caught unprepared. Man is placed in a helpless position wherein he could not defend himself against a faceless and unseen enemy. Fighting against this coronavirus is even worse than being chased by a hungry lion for, in the latter, you can at least run as fast as you can to safeguard your life, or use a weapon that could render the beast immobile.

What makes it very scary is the fact that anybody can be victimized by this virus without being aware of it. A person can be infected if, for example, he rubs his eyes or nose using a hand which had held a ball pen or paper bills, which contain droplets that came from an infected individual.

According to experts, under certain conditions, this coronavirus may stay alive for three to five days, depending on the surface where it landed. Based on studies, COVID-19 may stay alive for 24 hours if it lands on cardboard; two to three days on stainless steel; three days on plastic; and four hours on copper. It is noticeable that the virus’ lifespan is much, much shorter if it falls on copper, or even on copper alloy, because it has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties.

I am inclined to believe that it is true not because they have conducted tests to prove it. Actually, even without those tests, I have the inclination to believe it because the usefulness of copper as a disinfectant has been mentioned in the Bible.

Remember, the Israelites sinned against God when they made an idol, a molten calf, out of their earrings. They melted their golden earrings and from that, they formed a calf which would serve as their god. However, we have to consider the great possibility that not all the earrings that were melted then were made of real gold; others may just be gold-like but in reality were copper. And so they had an alloy of gold and copper in the mixture that they used in fashioning their false god. And for them to be saved from the plague that the Lord gave them, Moses burned the molten calf and ground it until it became powder, and sprinkled it in the water which the Israelites were made to drink. It might have tasted bitter but it could have saved them from the plague.

EXODUS 32:20 (KJV) says,

And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.

Copper has a disinfecting property. This fact was further reinforced in the instruction given by God, which Aaron and his sons had to observe, whenever they would go into the tabernacle of the congregation and to the altar.

EXODUS 30:18-20 (KJV) says,

18 Thou shalt make a laver of brass, and his foot also of brass, to wash withal: and thou shalt put it between the tabernacle of the congregation and the altar, and thou shalt put water therein.
19 For Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet thereat:
20 When they go into the tabernacle of the congregation, they shall wash with water, that they die not; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn offering made by fire unto the LORD:

God wanted the tabernacle of the congregation to be a safe place as many people go there. That was why they placed a laver, or a large basin, made of brass where Aaron and his sons should wash their feet before entering. [Brass is an alloy consisting of copper and zinc.] Why were they instructed to do that? Definitely, there is wisdom behind that specific instruction.

Copper Destroys Viruses and Bacteria. Why Isn’t It Everywhere?

After a long and meticulous study made by scientists, they found out that copper has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. Possibly, when water is put on a copper basin, colloidal copper is produced — as the ions of copper are combined with water. Hence, the instruction given to Aaron and his sons was a preventive measure for them not to be infected by bacteria and viruses that might have been carried by other people who had gone there.

What is really amazing is the fact that long before science discovered the usefulness of copper in disinfection, it had already been spoken of in the Bible. Proving that the Bible is an authority when it comes to all aspects of life — and that there is always wisdom in every word of God.

With the present predicament that the whole world is facing, specifically COVID-19, maybe it could be of help if you would adopt certain measures that the Israelites observed during their time since they also have scientific value. For instance, at home, you may use household items which are made of copper. If you are going to drink water, better put it in a copper container; if you are going to clean your hands, after washing them with soap and water, immerse your hands in water placed in a copper basin.

It would do us a lot of good if we are going to pattern our lives after the prescriptions of God. Maybe it is high time that we go back to using copper instead of stainless steel for our railings and doorknobs. The mere presence of copper, or even alloys of copper, can help in shortening the lives of bacteria and viruses, thus, can also lessen our chances of getting infected.

But most of all, what could really save us is our obedience to God. Obeying God’s commandments will not do us any harm. If you obey God’s commandments, even if you do not fully comprehend the wisdom behind such commandments yet, you can be sure that they are for your own good; they are all for your own benefit.

Actually, the primary reason why humanity is experiencing so many plagues now is because so many people have departed from God. They have chosen to disregard His words; they have opted to only follow their own whims.

But if we want a life that is not easily troubled by problems, like viruses and plagues, live a life that is in accordance to the will of God. Obey God’s teachings and commandments, and acknowledge the fact that we are all completely dependent on His graciousness and mercy.

May God bless and protect us all!
